Crushing a Tournament in Reno & a HIGH QUALITY Poker VLOG 57

Reno has craps and poker, but odds are lower on craps and poker is slow mid-week. What do you have to say about that kind of gambling and Reno? There many reasons to choose Reno over Las Vegas for a vacation, but craps and poker aren't among them. Reno is close enough to Lake Tahoe for day trips. We love the mountains, and all it has to offer. And he likes to play in a Poker tournament here or there, but not the expensive ones. Once the high-limit poker capital of the world, and a destination for higher spenders than Reno, Lake Tahoe might have decent poker when it's crowded at the height of ski season or during the summer, but I don't know for sure as it's been a while since I've played at the lake. Please if you have time tell me what you would do for a day in January in Tahoe, and what else you would do in Reno. I know it is smaller. It's been many years, but we enjoyed the Harrah's car museum downtown. Attached to a good casino would be nice What is your opinion on all of that? Is the downtown area similar with hotels and casinos in walking distance of each other. Rose's ski area Winter Creek Lodge for a hot chocolate and views east of Washoe Valley in the small but modern bar there. The Midtown area of downtown has a thriving hipster scene with bars, eateries and craft breweries - not sure if that's what you're looking for The one part of Tahoe that has some casinos is South Lake, about an hour from Reno. That said, the three connected casinos Eldorado, Silver Legacy and Circus Circus are perfectly fine casino-hotels Circus is renovating after changing owners -- the three connected casinos are now under the same ownership , and there are some nicer casino hotels away from downtown. In Reno, I love the Riverwalk area or 'district' and the grittier Midtown, just south of downtown. At least two tournaments daily during the week, and one or more on weekends. Big business has located new factories and distribution centers in the area and the economy is booming. There was a time we spent nearly all our time downtown, mainly Eldorado-Silver Legacy and Harrah's We were long-time players there, rooms nearly always comped, and some nice resort credits. I think it leaves on noon in the winter - you would have to check the schedule. There is a railroad museum on there, if case you are interested. Once in Incline you could stop and check out the Hyatt casino - its small - thats all I know about it, or just continue south to Sand Harbor on the east shore for a stroll and photo stop - its absolutely gorgeous in the winter. Next trip up is in a week and a half.{/INSERTKEYS}{/PARAGRAPH} If you're going on a gambling vacation with few to no plans to visit non-casino attractions, Reno can't compare with Las Vegas. Continue south on the east shore, maybe stop at Zephyr Cove and walk out on the pier for more photos or even a cruise on the MS Dixie. New businesses and restaurants open every week and there are people out and about enjoying the new Reno. We have been very happy with those 3, and have been treated quite fairly since then. But if he likes to play big, he'll be disappointed unless he is there during a big tournament, when there are lots of players and some larger side games. Reno -Tahoe casinos were in much better shape in the s before they started losing a lot of business to Indian casinos in California. As one who has been visiting Reno for 25 years, I've seen the changes, as well. Twenty years ago, there were eight additional large casino hotels and a bunch of smaller non-hotel casinos that all closed as competition from California drove them out of business. Though not the dirt cheap bargain it was at the height of the recession, Reno is much more affordable than LV, with less nickel and diming. Reno has the best blackjack and according to figures published by various gaming commissions, the loosest slot machines in the USA. Thanks you so much for your help! There is a large homeless contingent that hangs out downtown so it's not always the most pleasant part of town. Consider a stop at Mt. Even though traffic is getting worse, it's still nothing like traffic in LV. You could also just drive there on to 50, the fastest way. Reno is much smaller, more laidback , retro and yeah, grittier is some respects. Dollars generally go further in Reno than Las Vegas, both in and out of casinos. Lake Tahoe is very beautiful, but the casinos there don't offer the same value as those in Reno, and room prices are not cheap, though not really more expensive than the Las Vegas strip. Downtown Reno is not similar to the strip in Las Vegas at all. Continue west to Tahoe City , maybe stopping at Gar Woods lakefront for a drink. Reno casinos are especially aggressive about getting new customers to return, so if you go to Reno, sign up for cards and play a bit at a few casinos, then see what kind of return offers you receive. We live in Colorado I love the mountains, hiking, skiing etc. The car enables us to drive to Tahoe. Not the expensive ones. If you have time can you tell me more about other things to do there? I've been getting and using comp'ed rooms at the Nugget and GSR for a few years now. It's no great gambling mecca, just 4 or 5 counting Lakeside casinos near the lake, which, BTW, has way more to offer besides gambling and well worth an overnight :. The Cal Neva and Harrahs are generally regarded as dumps. In Incline there's one casino resort -- I've never heard anything good about the casino -- and in Crystal Bay, there are three small casinos offering nothing special in terms of games. Popular casinos in downtown are the Eldorado and The Silver Legacy, which are attached to each other with the Circus Circus. After a terrible start to the recession, Reno is experiencing a renaissance of sorts. As for craps and poker, Las Vegas is better than Reno. We like nice clean hotels, but don't have to be fancy. Though we always drive to Reno, we use the very efficient bus system while we're there, to downtown restaurants or a ball game. Unfortunately, Reno's downtown is in transition. Reno is also much more generous with comps than Las Vegas casinos. For your future benefit, you should pick two or three Reno places you like and sign up for their player's clubs. Atlantis and Grand Sierra have poker rooms, but I do not frequent either place. In South Lake Tahoe , there are four large casino-hotels just over the state line, and a smaller one a few blocks down. After that you will pass several popular backcountry access points thats why the cars are there as well as Tahoe Meadows, a popular snowplow and snowmobile area, before coming to a popular pull-out on the road with great views of the lake. There is also Harrah's which is neglected, boring and dead , the Cal Neva an old dive -- avoid the food and Sands another dive -- don't walk to the Sands alone at night. Return to Reno via HWY This is assuming you just want a nice drive on the way to South Lake. Joe - you out there? For example, unlike their LV counterparts, casinos in Reno want your business badly enough not to charge for parking; and you'll find coffee and sometimes even refrigerators in casino hotel rooms the trend in Reno is to get rid of the minibar and leave the fridge. Rum r, thank you for your reply. Thanks again for your time! Keep driving and you will end up in South Lake where you can check out one or more of the casinos. Here's a link to the Peppermill poker room waiting list. Would it be worth it to rent a car and head to Lake Tahoe? I don't know that much about Craps or Poker. We go there to eat and drink ; There's a Patagonia outlet, not full retail store in downtown where you can find some great buys and is probably the reason you see so much Patagonia attire in Reno. Pretty sure the pit runs year-round. {PARAGRAPH}{INSERTKEYS}My husband enjoys going to LV but we are thinking of a weekend in Reno instead. Your husband can check it at the times he'd most likely be playing and get and idea of what they spread on a normal night We are thinking of coming over the long weekend in January. You can find higher odds on craps and many more and better poker games in LV. Lake Tahoe is even cooler than Reno in the summer and there are countless outdoor activities for visitors. Peppermill has a better tournament schedule, and is a larger facility with more games and limits. We gave them all of our significant play, in return. I don't frequent the casinos but maybe one of the regular posters may show up to give you a better perspective. For other ideas, click on Things To Do, above, and read the reviews. The weather is much cooler than LV in the summer -- a good reason to choose Reno between June and early September. In our opinion, this is the nicest spot on the lake, for that purpose. They have a morning tournament, 10am, and then some evening tournaments during the week. Atlantis good hotel, great casino , Peppermill great hotel, good casino , Grand Sierra Resort good hotel, decent casino , and Sparks Nugget one tower newly renovated, decent casino are all large hotel-casinos with more than rooms, reminiscent of Las Vegas casinos. There are three connected casinos that together are like a Las Vegas Resort in size and scope of gambling, food and entertainment. I encourage you to visit them and compare to downtown, in all aspects. Aside from good blackjack and loose slots, the reason to go to Reno instead of Las Vegas is for the non-casino aspects. But since E-SL purchased Circus-Circus awhile back, we have seen comp and gambling differences large enough to cause us to move our business to Peppermill -Atlantis- Grand Sierra. Not bringing our ski stuff, but would love to do something for a day or part of a day there? Concur with above. I'm usually skiing in January but also love snowshoeing and this area has tons of trails.
